EUPHRESCO II Description of Work 28 March 11

EUPHRESCO-1 (2006-2010) achieved its objectives through the completion of five workpackages :

Workpackage 1. Project coordination, management, communication and dissemination

  • Manage and coordinate the Phytosanitary ERA-NET
  • Communicate the aims and progress of the Phytosanitary ERA-NET
  • Disseminate project outputs

Workpackage 2. Mapping and analysis of existing research and of current needs

  • Evaluate and analyse the gathered information to identify: overlaps, gaps, duplication, strengths/weaknesses, opportunities and common research priorities.
  • Develop common 'principles' guide for best practice

Workpackage 3. Developing instruments and preparing for pilot projects

  • Develop the instruments, mechanisms and processes needed to enable joint trans-national activities and funding of a future trans-national phytosanitary research programme.
  • Prepare for pilot projects to test instruments.

Workpackage 4. Test, evaluate and refine instruments (Pilots)

  • Pilot, evaluate and refine the instruments needed for trans-national research
  • Establish common, proven instruments and mechanisms for future use

Workpackage 5. Develop trans-national agendas, programmes and a long-term, sustainable coordination Network, and external linkages to other disciplines

  • Develop a common research agenda based on shared priorities
  • Establish an infrastructure, which will ensure long-term sustainability of the research funder network beyond the end of the ERA-NET
  • Explore and improve linkages with other priority disciplines relevant to Plant Health

EUPHRESCO-2 (2011-2014) will achieve its objectives through the completion of five workpackages:

Workpackage 1. Project coordination, management, communication and dissemination

  • Manage and coordinate the Phytosanitary ERA-NET
  • Communicate the aims and progress of the Phytosanitary ERA-NET
  • Disseminate project outputs

Workpackage 2. Implementing, testing and refining the proposed long-term self-sustainable Network structure

  • Implement and establish the proposed structure and modus operandi of the long-term Network.
  • Evaluate and refine the structure and modus operandi of the long-term network.
  • Maintain on-going core network activities that underpin coordination and collaboration.

Workpackage 3. Deepening through trans-national research projects

  • Identify and prioritise trans-national research topics.
  • Initiate trans-national research to support EU plant health policy, operations and science.

Workpackage 4. Deepening through improving processes and tools for trans-national cooperation

  • Improve technical possibilities (platforms and processes) for the phytosanitary market place.
  • Enable effective exchange and access to information within the plant health research landscape.
  • Explore new ways of doing things, e.g. enhance possibilities to react quickly to problems.
  • Enhance possibilities for trans-national research by identifying individual national barriers.
  • Enhance linkages to key stakeholders and coordination mechanisms for improved agenda setting.

Workpackage 5. Enlarging the Network Cooperation

  • Attract and integrate relevant new partners into EUPHRESCO.
  • Explore opportunities and, if possible, implement increased regionalised cooperation.
  • Explore possibilities, and if possible implement, linkages with third countries to increase opportunities for increased cooperation and collaboration outside the EU.
  • Increase inclusion of sectors that were previously under-represented in EUPHRESCO and in trans-national research projects, such as forestry plant health.
